Body Composition Analysis
When it comes to your weight loss progress, your bathroom scale tells just part of the story. It’s also important to understand how much of your body weight is fat and how much is lean muscle mass.
We utilize a Tanita Body Composition Analyzer at our offices to measure and track your Body Mass Index (BMI), total body fat weight, total body water weight, Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), and more.
Tanita is the gold standard in body composition analyzers. Their equipment is cleared by the United States Food & Drug Administration, and accurate within 5% of DEXA (Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) results – but without the x-rays.
How It Works
It’s non-invasive! The scanner uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to measure the rate at which an imperceptible low-level electrical current travels through the body. This measurement is then used to calculate Fat Free Mass (FFM), along with BMI, body fat percentage, and other key indicators.
It’s accurate! Tanita’s proprietary BIA is standard in many medical offices because the results compare very closely (within 5%) to DEXA analysis, a method used primarily in research facilities due to its cost and considerably longer procedure time.
It’s fast and easy! A patient simply steps onto the scanner’s platform, and the entire process takes less than one minute!
